The goal of training games is to help players get closer to top skill level, by providing quality games during the time. Participants are required to be communicative and avoid getting booted. Boot time standard for games is 3 days. The total amount of games is expected to be ~50 and duration ~1 year. Player depending on his time constraints might be participating in ~2-10 games at any given time. After each game teacher says some comments about each player’s decisions and might ask them to explain themselves or see some potential mistakes made by him or someone else. Teachers sometimes ask to describe best start positions and counter moves for them. When Teacher is explaining game theory for students, game events are used to illustrate points and often possible game scenarios which could have happened are discussed.
Training games consist of 5 stages:
1st stage: Basic Training. Basic games on imperium romanum map. Each game includes new increasingly more complex settings. Lasts until players understand all different game settings. Training program only covers this stage so far, but all the going to be covered at one point.
2nd stage: Introduction to most common strategic templates. Games played with 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 ladder settings.
3rd stage: introduction to different settings/maps: introduce players to different maps and settings combinations. Includes seasonal games settings, maps like complex europe, hopscothc, mirror earth, issander’s Africa map(complex one). Players get introduced to all for me available settings like complete fog, multi attack, attack/transfer only.
4th stage: introduction to ffa and diplomacy games(optional). A quick stage to help players learn to play carefully and mostly focusing on importance of private messaging and diplomacy.
5th stage: final stage. Players replay games from first 3 stages versus top tier players. The goal of this stage is to check how well the players have learnt. If a player is playing underwhelmingly, he might be demoted to lower stage.
Usually a player at any given time is in two 1v1 games, two 2v2 games and two 3v3 games. Sometimes players might get invited to bigger team game or ffa games.
